THE MARION BARRY, JR. PUBLIC ART PROJECT

The Marion Barry Jr. Public Arts Project was commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) in March 2022. CAH issued an RFP seeking qualified artists to design, fabricate and install a 3-part Mural , interactive kiosks and/or display cases commemorating the contributions and work of Mayor Barry to the city and people of Washington DC. These works, along with a plaster mold of the Bronze statue located in front of the John A. Wilson Building, will be housed in the Mayor Marion Barry Jr. Building (formerly One Judiciary Square located at 441 4 th Street, NW) re-named in his honor. After a strong competition, Creative Junk Food, LLC—a Ward 8 company of talented, community-driven company—recognized for its murals and interactive installations throughout the city was selected to create the Mayor Barry experience. The project will be completed in late 2023, early 2024.
