Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library celebrated its grand re-opening and multi-million dollar, three-year renovation in September 2020 with a new permanent fourth floor exhibit which acknowledged and celebrated the activism and impact of Marion S. Barry, DC’s Mayor for Life.

The Marion Barry Jr. Public Arts Project was commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) in March 2022.

On Saturday, March 3, 2018, Mayor Bowser unveiled and dedicated an historic statue of Mayor Marion S. Barry, Jr. The eight-foot bronze statue honors Mayor Barry’s life of public service to District residents.
